The SAPS has refuted claims that Riah Phiyega failed to take action against KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Mamonye Ngobeni But suspended IPID head Robert McBride is adamant she dragged her heels on the matter.
JOHANNESBURG - Suspended Independent Police Investigative Directorate boss, Robert McBride, has been formally charged with fraud and defeating the ends of justice.
McBride and two lead IPID investigators were summoned to the National Prosecuting Authority’s Specialised Commercial Crimes Unit offices to be charged.
The charges stem from allegations that he altered the report into the rendition of six Zimbabweans in 2010.
He says his lead investigator in the case did amend the draft report as his inquiry progressed, but he denies there was anything untoward about that.
McBride and the two IPID investigators, are due in court on Wednesday.
