JOHANNESBURG - A group of 20 boys were found beaten and starved in a mine shaft in Soweto on Tuesday

According to one parent, the boys were abducted from their high school to be taken to illegal initiation schools operating in the area.

One of the boy's mothers described the state of her son after he was found, "he's not well. We're going to the doctor but he can't speak, he's been traumatised."

She suspects that the boys were taken and hidden in the mine shaft.
