JOHANNESBURG - Several top leaders of the National Freedom Party have reportedly resigned ,with the only confirmed case being that of its national chairperson, Maliyakhe Shelembe.

KwaZulu-Natal chairperson Vikizitha Mlotshwa says Shelembe tendered his resignation on Saturday but he can&39;t confirm the resignation of deputy president Alex Kekana, secretary-general Nhlanhla Khubisa and Treasurer Xolani Ndlovu.

The party&39;s participation in the August election remains in limbo.

The Electoral Court reserved its judgment on the matter between the party and the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

The party is challenging the commission’s decision to disqualify it from the local government elections after it failed to pay the required deposit on time.
