JOHANNESBURG - Eskom says sourcing coal from a Gupta-owned mine is a straightforward business deal.

Chief executive officer Brian Molefe, briefing the media on Wednesday, said it is not the utility&39;s business who owns a mine. All Eskom wants is cheap, quality coal.

He was responding to the storm that has arisen around the termination of Eskom&39;s coal deal with Exxaro in favour of supply from a mine owned by the Gupta family.

The deal is one of the examples cited by those who say the Guptas have undue influence on President Jacob Zuma and some of his ministers.

Molefe also said no load-shedding is anticipated in winter and that construction of the Medupi and Kusile power plants is on track.
