
68 people were rescued from a sinking ship off the coast of Robben Island on Friday 15 September 2017.
CAPE TOWN - National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) rescuers assisted over 60 passengers aboard a Robben Island ferry that was sinking on Friday afternoon.

According to authorities, all the 68 passengers were safely evacuated from the vessel that remains at sea.
Rescuers from the NSRI, The South African Airforce and police were dispatched.
Several passengers were treated for hypothermia, with one woman taken to hospital with minor back injuries.
The South African Maritime Safety Authority has been alerted and will investigate what caused the ferry to leak.
