Parliament might call SABC again

File: Solidarity has given the SABC until noon Thursday to reinstate three suspended senior journalists.

CAPE TOWN - Parliament says it might call the SABC at a later stage to answer further questions.

On Tuesday, the portfolio committee on communications held back on an inquiry into the public broadcaster.

That’s despite seemingly unsatisfactory testimony from Communications Minister Faith Muthambi, as well as SABC management.

Opposition parties were not convinced that recent controversies at the broadcaster were due to misunderstandings.

The SABC stood its ground, claiming reports about chaos at the broadcaster are all part of a smear campaign.

"Maybe the inquiry should be, why are these people having so much interest?" asked SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

"Maybe we should start with them. And inquire about them. What is it with these people that they have so much interest at the SABC. Because I know why."
