JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police say they are close to making an arrest in the murder case of Bafana Bafana captain, Senzo Meyiwa.

The 27-year-old was shot dead at the home of his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo&39;s home in Vosloorus in October 2014.

The Durban-born goalie made his big break into the Premier Soccer League when he was picked up by Soweto giant Orlando Pirates in 2005.

Since then, Meyiwa blossomed into one of the country’s finest goalkeepers and became an integral leading figure in African soccer.

On the night of 26 October, 2014, three shots were heard from the house where friends of the couple had gathered.

Neighbours said three people had fled from the house on foot following the shooting.

Meyiwa was later rushed to the Botshelong Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

In November, police issued a briefing in which they insisted that his death had been a result of a robbery gone wrong.

Meyiwa was laid to rest on Sunday, 2 November 2014 in a funeral held at the Heroes Acre in Chesterville, Durban
