Update: The situation was calm later on Thursday night after chaos erupted on the Nelson Mandela Bridge earlier in the evening.

JOHANNESBURG - Chaos erupted in Johannesburg on Thursday evening when a group of EFF supporters protested at the Nelson Mandela Bridge.

 

 

Several business executives are taking part in a charity event at this location.

One person was shot in the eye, as police fired rubber bullets in a bid to disperse the crowd.

Protesters also stoned a vehicle, shattering its windows.

 

 

The EFF student command is apparently protesting against high accommodation fees.

The CEO SleepOut is an annual event, designed to help the homeless.
