Road closures: What to expect for Winnie Madikizela-Mandela's funeral

JOHANNESBURG – There will be a number of road closures on Saturday for the state funeral of struggle veteran Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.

Residents and motorists are requested to note the planned road closures for the procession.

The procession will depart from Orlando Stadium in Soweto at noon and head towards the N17, then on-ramp on the N1 highway, off-ramp at William Nicol Drive and turn left into Cedar Road and into the private road leading to the Fourways Memorial Park.

The routes mentioned above will be blocked off to traffic.

It is also believed that a 21-gun salute will be observed.

“Whilst the exact timing of the funeral procession is beyond our control, traffic is expected to return to normal at 3pm,” the City of Johannesburg said.
