PRETORIA - Suspended Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) head Robert McBride has accused Police Minister Nathi Nhleko of being a liar.

He said claims Nhleko made about him altering an Ipid report are nonsense.

McBride said the criminal charges he now faces – following Nhleko’s claims – are not backed up by evidence.

He said when he has been vindicated, he will sue the state for malicious prosecution.

McBride and two of his investigators are expected to be charged on Tuesday with fraud and defeating the ends of justice for allegedly tampering with a report into the illegal rendition of accused Zimbabwean criminals, six years ago.

Nhleko stated in court documents that McBride deliberately tried to exclude evidence that implicated former Hawks boss Anwa Dramat and former head of the Gauteng Hawks, General Shadrack Sibiya.
