Johannesburg - The permanent appointment of Hlaudi Motsoeneng as SABC Chief Operating Officer was a rational and lawful decision. That's according to Communications Minister Faith Muthambi.

CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape High Court has ruled that SABC chief Hlaudi Motsoeneng be suspended with immediate effect.

This is to allow disciplinary proceedings to take place.

The DA went to court, demanding that last year’s high court order against Motsoeneng be enforced.

In October, the Western Cape High Court ruled the broadcasting chief must be suspended.

It followed a damning report by the public protector.

Thuli Madonsela found that Motsoeneng had lied about his qualifications, increased his salary by more than R1-million in one year and purged senior staff.

But Motsoeneng wasn&39;t suspended.

The SABC has claimed the public protector&39;s recommendations aren&39;t legally binding.
