JOHANNESBURG, 11 JULY 2016 - The SABC will challenge Icasa's ruling that its decision not to show visuals of violent protests was wrong. The public broadcaster insists the decision was in line with the Broadcasting Act.

JOHANNESBURG - The ANC says failure by the SABC to implement an Icasa ruling will come back to haunt the public broadcaster.

It has welcomed the regulatory body’s ruling ordering the SABC to reverse a decision not to show violent protests.

The governing party called on the public broadcaster to respect its charter on the country’s media.

SABC officials had earlier said they would challenge the Icasa ruling in court.

"When you do that, you are cutting your nose to spite your face," said ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe.

"You come back to realise much later that what you were proud of in displaying your power by being defiant is actually destroying the institution and you as an individual."
