JOHANNESBURG – The SABC says that embattled executive Hlaudi Motsoeneng is still its chief operations officer, despite awaiting the outcome of his disciplinary hearing.

Last week the Western Cape High Court had set aside Motsoeneng’s appointment as COO was "unlawful and irrational".

His initial suspension was recommended by Public Protector Thuli Madonsela following her investigation into the public broadcaster.

However in a brief statement the SABC says that Motsoeneng remains its COO pending the appeal process.

“The South African Broadcast Corporation (SABC) wishes to clear up any confusion following the adjournment yesterday of the disciplinary hearing against chief operations officer (COO), Mr Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

“Pending the finalisation of the appeal process, Mr Motsoeneng is still the organisation’s COO.”
