JOHANNESBURG, 05 April, 2016 - The City of Johannesburg must upgrade Slovo Informal Settlement near Eldorado Park. Thats an order from the South Gauteng High Court.
JOHANNESBURG - The Socio-Economic Rights Institute has welcomed a court ruling ordering the City of Johannesburg to upgrade Slovo Park Informal Settlement.
The institute says the decision will have an effect on service delivery in all informal settlements.
The South Gauteng High Court ordered the city to apply for funding from provincial government to upgrade the area, instead of relocate locals.
Residents went to court, saying officials had failed to provide them with services despite promises made 20 years ago.
