RICHARDS BAY - Four children, believed to be from the same primary school, have drowned near Richards Bay in KwaZulu-Natal.

The group -- aged between five and 13 -- had been swimming at Msweli Dam.

One of the children alerted members of the community after witnessing his friends experiencing difficulties in the water.

It was too late for them to be saved.

The NSRI&39;s Craig Lambinon said a child alerted the community who then alerted the police.

"When they arrived they were no sign of the children," he said.
