Today is International Day of Older Persons: celebrating the elderly

JOHANNESBURG – The beginning of October marks International Day of Older Persons.  Various events will be held across the country today to mark the International Day of Older Persons.

Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe will be part of celebrations at Noma Day Care Centre near Pretoria.

In December 1990, the United Nations General Assembly declared the 1st of October as the International Day of Older Persons.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The minister will use the event to among others, promote awareness about services to older persons.

Johannesburg Zoo will also commemorate the day by hosting a walking stick selfie competition, which is meant to encourage people to take selfies with their grandparents.
