HARRISMITH - A bus carrying school children crashed and burst into flames near Warden in the Free State.

Two children believed to be three-year-old twins, have died.

eNCA news anchor Iman Rappetti said most of the children managed to escape before the bus became fully engulfed.

Many children seen sitting on the side of the road were clearly shaken.

It appears the driver managed to pull the burning vehicle onto the side of the road before it was evacuated.

Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said two children were critically injured and were transported to a nearby hospital.

A further four children sustained serious injuries while 17 others were treated for minor injuries.
