JOHANNESBURG - Two children have drowned in two separate incidents at the coast over the weekend.

According to the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), a 10-year-old boy was swept into the ocean at a lagoon in Durban where he was playing on a sandbank with a group of children.

The boy&39;s body was recovered following an extensive search, and he was declared deceased.

In Hermanus, a 13-year-old boy, reportedly on a school outing, disappeared underwater in a lagoon. His body was later retrieved and he was declared dead at the scene.

Reports from eye-witnesses suggested that the teenager may have jumped into the water to assist a fellow learner who had gotten into difficulty in the water when he got into difficulty himself and disappeared under water.
