It’s one-nil to Zwelinzima Vavi in what is likely to be a long-drawn-out political battle to retain his job.
It says the union federation’s constitution was not followed when he was suspended, therefore making that decision invalid.
Meanwhile, Vavi’s backers have renewed calls for the current Cosatu leadership to step down.
Karl Cloete, NUMSA Deputy General Secretary says, "We&39;ve always maintained that the current Cosatu National office bearers are leading the federation on the basis of a faction. They&39;re not leading the federation on the basis of the affiliated unions. And the best thing for them to do at this point, is to resign from office and to allow Cosatu to take its rightful place in the South African society.”
The Cosatu General Secretary was suspended in August last year, after admitting to having an extramarital affair with a junior employee.
