PORT ELIZABETH – As the ANC gets busy with its election campaign in Port Elizabeth, ANC Women’s League president Bathabile Dlamini was made to feel unwelcome and was reduced to tears by angry locals.
New Brighton community members prevented the R67-million Ernest Malgas Drug Treatment Centre from opening on Friday morning.
The residents claim they are not getting jobs at the centre.
A video emerged showing Dlamini bursting into tears after being repeatedly heckled.
The Herald newspaper reported that onlookers claimed she was drunk on expensive whiskey.
The local newspaper also reported that residents had closed Singapi Street leading to a strong police presence in the area.
