MAHIKENG - One person has died and three others have been injured during violent protests in Mahikeng.

The driver of a car apparently lost control during a looting spree, leading to the tragedy.

Community members were protesting against poor service delivery.

The protests were sparked by the death of two locals who couldn't get help at a clinic because of an ongoing Nehawu strike in the province.

The residents are also demanding premier Supra Mahumapelo's resignation, accusing him of corruption.

But the ANC Women’s League in the province says Mahumapelo's going nowhere unless he's proven guilty in a court of law.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has cut short his trip to London to deal with the violent protests.

Ramaphosa is set to visit the province on Friday, along with ANC leaders.

Meanwhile, seven community members will appear in court on Friday morning.

Police are monitoring the area.
