JOHANNESBURG - The ANC chief whip Jackson Mthembu says the governing party is pleased with developments in discussions between President Zuma and Cyril Ramaphosa.

"We don't need to wear our boxing gloves because something fruitful and productive is happening between Zuma and Ramaphosa," said Mthembu.

National Assembly speaker Baleka Mbete said she expected to receive feedback from Zuma and Ramaphosa on Wednesday.

"We can't pre-empty what's going to happen. We have to respect the consultations between the two presidents. The ANC President will come back to us today, and we'll take it from there," she said.

"You know a day is a long time in politics. There will be some progress which the President of the ANC will be ready to come back to us about, which will enable us to also plan and start preparing for a specific time in terms of the days that are coming."
