PRETORIA - Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad al-Thani, arrived in South Africa on Tuesday night.
President Jacob Zuma met al-Thani ahead of his two-day state visit.
al-Thani's arrival comes as opposition parties gather to protest against Zuma on Wednesday.
Some reports claim the meeting was brought forward due to the protest action.
The Presidency says the visit aims to strengthen political and economic relations.
It will identify short-term projects in trade and investment, agriculture and the oceans economy.
