Ronwen Williams will be thrust into the deep end on Wednesday as likely first choice for Bafana Bafana after Itumeleng Khune sprained his ankle and was ruled out of the friendly against Brazil.

The 22-year-old Williams will earn his first cap while Khune sits on the sidelines for at least the next 10 days

Khune and Williams were the only goalkeepers named for the match at Soccer City but Gordon Igesund was expected to add another goalkeeper to the squad on Monday as back-up.

He might be tempted to add a third.

Khune hurt his ankle in the warm-up before Kaizer Chiefs’ African Champions League second round first leg tie against the Mozambican club Liga Muculmana in Durban on Saturday night.

Reyaad Pieterse replaced Khune in the Chiefs goal before the kick-off of their 4-0 victory over Liga Muculmana at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

It meant Khune missed the milestone of 200 league and cup starts for his club.

Igesund is expected to have Thulani Serero available after he played on Sunday for Ajax Amsterdam on a return from injury.

He had been doubtful in recent weeks but recovered enough to start the match against Feyenoord on Sunday, which Ajax won 2-1.
