Seven-year-old golfer 'Sim Tiger' making big strides

JOHANNESBURG - Seven-year-old golfer, Simthandile "Sim Tiger" Tshabalala is flying the South African flag high.

Tshabalala finished in the top five at the Australian Open at the weekend.

"I'm very proud, I still can't believe what he's achieved. We tried him in different sports since he was two, we tried him in tennis, soccer, cricket and swimming and all the other stuff.

"I grew up in a disadvantaged background and I didn't have that exposure, so I told myself that I'm going to give my son the best possible exposure. I wanted to give him the opportunity to know what his talent is and that is when we discovered that he's got talent in golf'", his father said.

The golf prodigy played in the boys' under-seven category.
