Americans Hawayek and Baker win Japan ice dance

HIROSHIMA - American skaters Kaitlin Hawayek and Jean-Luc Baker swept to the ice dance title at the NHK Trophy with a personal best score on Sunday.

The United States pair earned a combined total of 184.63 points in Hiroshima after starting their free dance in second place.

Russia's Tiffani Zagorski and Jonathan Guerreiro, who led after Saturday's short routine, finished runners-up on 183.05, while the American pair of Rachel and Michael Parsons took third with 178.64.

The climax of the ice dance competition followed two days of local success at the NHK Trophy, despite the absence of Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu.

Japanese schoolgirl Rika Kihira marked her Grand Prix debut with a stunning victory before Olympic silver medallist Shoma Uno completed a home double by sweeping to gold in the men's competition at the fourth of the six-event GP series.
