IBO cruiserweight champion Kevin Lerena at the weigh-in at Emperor's Palace, Johannesburg ahead of his much-anticipated fight against Artur Mann.
JOHANNESBURG - IBO Cruiserweight champion, Kevin Lerena has big ambitions as he wants to challenge for the WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO titles.
That is if Oleksandr Usyk moves up to the heavyweight division, but first, Lerena has to defend his belt against the undefeated Artur Mann.
Kevin Lerena will defend his IBO Cruiserweight belt for the third time since 2017.
Lerena concedes that Artur Mann has an impressive record but he won't be letting the German take his title.
"He is fifteen and O that says enough what I think about Artur Mann...sometimes a loss in the record means nothing, it means nothing to me, because it made me a better a fighter but what I'm saying is I take each fight so seriously and this is a big fight for me...yes, I had big fights against Kolenga Kutcher, kolavachengo Micke and Nielsen....but those are in the past. I'm now focused on Artur Mann", said Lerena.
"We all know that Oleksandr Usyk most probably is going up to heavyweight which leaves four belts vacant I would like to fight for as many of those belts as possible when the timing is right and when the money is right", added Lerena.
Oleksandr Usyk is the new WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO cruiserweight champion and Lerena has his sights set on the Ukrainian.
Lerena's ambition is to be South Africa's best ever cruiserweight, and if Usyk moves up to the heavyweight division, then that will present the opportunity that he desires; However, he has to get past an unbeaten Artur Mann at Emperors Palace.
