JOHANNESBURG - The Omicron variant of the coronavirus continues to throw sporting events into disarray.

The 2021 Mzansi Super League is the latest casualty as Cricket South Africa has decided to cancel it.

This year's edition of the MSL was scheduled to take place in February 2022 but the CSA has pulled the plug, citing the disruptions caused by travel restrictions imposed on South Africa.

This is the second time that the CSA's premier T20 competition has been cancelled.

The 2020 event was also cancelled because of the pandemic.

The Super League, which has been modelled around the Indian Premier League, was first played in 2018 and won by the Jozi Stars, with the 2019 showpiece claimed by the Paarl Rocks.
