PSL head coach merry-go-round

JOHANNESBURG - The second half of the season is set to kick off on Friday night and PSL clubs have axed a number of coaches in a bid to change their fortunes this season.

Dan Malesela

Dan “Dance” Malesela was embarrassingly sacked three games into the 2018-19 season in his second stint as Chippa United manager, though he later found a new home in the form National First Division (NFD) newcomers TS Galaxy In early September 2018.

Joel Masutha 

Joel Masutha became the second coaching casualty of the season as he resigned from his post as Black Leopards head coach and there are questions to whether he resigned or was forced out by Lidoda Duvha.


Erick Tinkler

Luc Eymael



The Belgian-born mentor vacated his position as head coach of Free State Stars in early November 2018 explaining the decision as a "mutual separation". He’s since been out of work.

Clinton Larsen

The 47-year-old was sacked in late December following a run of just two wins in Amazulu’s last 16 games in all competitions. The club later said the decision was a “mutual agreement between both parties”

Steve Komphela


The Former Kaizer Chiefs head coach handed in his resignation in late December, as Bloemfontein Celtic continue going through a difficult financial patch, lacking financial resources,and reportedly up for sale. Komphela will now lead the Durban based side having replaced Clinton Larsen.


Giovanni Solinas



Italian coach Giovanni Solinas was sacked along with assistant coach Patrick Mabedi by Kaizer Chiefs in early December as the Soweto giants failed to mount a title challenge, thus failing to beat bitter rivals Orlando Pirates in three attempts.
