Both were injured in European Cup action last weekend, and ruled out on Tuesday by Scotland from at least its first match on February 7, against France in Paris.

Denton, capped 23 times, had a scan on Monday which confirmed he tore a calf muscle in Edinburgh&39;s win over Bordeaux last Friday.

Castres No 8 Johnnie Beattie was called up into the national squad on Monday.

A scan on Maitland on Monday also showed the 15-cap player damaged his shoulder in Glasgow&39;s loss to Bath on Sunday.
