Bafana scores in FIFA rankings


Ephraim 'Shakes' Mashaba has been appointed as the new head coach of Bafana Bafana.

JOHANNESBURG - Bafana Bafana&39;s impressive performance in the Afcon 2015 qualifiers has paid off.

Bafana jumped 10 places in the latest wold ranking released by FIFA.

In four matches, Bafana gained eight points after wins over Sudan and Congo, as well as draws against Nigeria and Congo to propel them to the 57th spot.

"This is good news. It shows we are doing something right, especially in such a short space of time," Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba said in a statement.

"It is still early days, though. There is a lot of work to be done and hopefully we will get even higher on the rankings."

South Africa moved two places from 14th to 12th in the continent standing.
