Standard Bank customers seeing red after technical glitches

JOHANNESUBRG - Standard Bank customers were left seeing red on Monday after the bank&39;s systems crashed affecting multiple banking functions.

Services that were impacted by the disruption included ATM functionality, debit and credit card purchases, Internet Banking as well as telephone and app services.

Customers were furious at not being able to withdraw money, pay at tills or pay their month-end bills, among other essential banking needs.

The bank said that the listed services were restored within two hours following prompt action by Standard Bank’s internal technical team however, customers tell a different story.

At the time of publishing, the bank&39;s internet services were still slow and the bank&39;s cellphone app was not working, but ATM&39;s and cash point sales were reported to be working.

“We would like to reassure our customers that their overall experience with Standard Bank and the services we offer remains our top priority and we regret any inconvenience caused,” said Funeka Montjane, Standard Bank’s Chief Executive: Personal and Business Banking, South Africa.

Standard Bank said  they are investigating the root cause of the system failure, but thier initial investigation has determined that the incident was caused by hardware failure.

“Standard Bank takes this matter very seriously as it is important that our customers are able to access all of our services seamlessly and without fail 24/7. We will be monitoring the system closely,” said Ms Montjane.
