CAPE TOWN - Comic books fans had a treat this weekend in Cape Town.

The city played host to the inaugural Cape Town FanCon, where hundreds of fans took part.

It was a veritable feast for fantasy and science fiction enthusiasts, as well as comic book lovers looking to boost their collections.

Event organisers said the fans' response has been excellent.

“We did hit our capacity, we were full jam packed. Today is looking like really good strong turnout even though it's Mother's Day but a brilliant turnout. I think Cape Town has really come out for this show I am really impressed,” said event organiser, Nizar Abrahams.

Abrahams said FanCon is geek heaven for fans with activities galore, including cosplay, dance performances and the obligatory Geek Quiz .

Rare and vintage comic books were on display, while writers and illustrators from home and abroad were in attendance to enthral the crowds.

The organisers said they're hoping the event becomes a prominent feature on the comic book social calendar.
