JOHANNESBURG – WhatsApp has been plagued by technical issues over the past few months. According to reports by users on social media indicate the WhatsApp was down on Thursday evening.

Twitter users indicate that the messaging app started experiencing delays before 9pm SAST.

According to the DownDetector dashboard, users in Middle East, Africa, Europe and South America were not able to send and receive message. South African users were also affected.

WhatsApp services have returned to normal after an outage in both South Africa and around the world.
