Woolworths moves to remove all plastic bags

JOHANNESBURG - Woolworths is getting rid of even more plastic.

It's started a pilot project to remove plastic carrier bags from their stores.

It will run in 12 stores in the Western Cape and Gauteng.

Since 2018, the retailer has removed most single-use plastics, including plastic cutlery, straws and earbuds.

But, plastic carrier bags for loose fruit and veggies, or to separate products, have remained the last barrier.

Group head of sustainability, Feroz Koor says they plan to roll out their anti-plastic plan nationally.
