Joburg fire | City Power unable to commit to restoration time

JOHANNESBURG - City Power can't say when electricity will be restored to the Joburg CBD and surrounds.

It has hinted it may take up to two weeks.

This is due to an underground cable fire along the M1 North on Wednesday.

Cable theft and vandalism have been singled out as the main causes of the blaze.

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said the fire was extinguished late Wednesday evening.

"This morning what we are going to do alongside EMS and JRA is to have a meeting so that we can basically be handed over the site and we can start with an assessment of the extent of the damage," Mangena said.
