Tight security as alleged rival gang bosses appear in court

CAPE TOWN - Two high-profile criminal trials, involving some of South Africa's top alleged underworld bosses, are continuing in the Western Cape High Court.

In one courtroom, it's the state versus Nafiz Modack and 14 others.

In another, it's the state versus Mark Lifman, Jerome Booysen and 12 others.

They are charged cumulatively with gang-related activities, attempted murder, murder, conspiracy to commit murder, money laundering and intimidation.

Modack and his co-accused are also charged with the murder of anti-gang detective Charl Kinnear.

The cases are being heard under tight security.
