Call for accountability for Usindiso tragedy

JOHANNESBURG - The Khampepe Commission of Inquiry into the Usindiso building fire in Johannesburg has found the City of Johannesburg liable for the tragedy that resulted in the deaths of 76 people.

Commission chairperson Sisi Khampempe released her final report after nearly eight months of hearings.

One of the recommendations is that the human settlements and public safety MMCs be held to account and that appropriate action should be taken against them.

City of Johannesburg Human Settlement Director Charles Cilliers discusses this further.
