REACTION | Inflation drops to 5.3% in March

JOHANNESBURG - Inflation has dropped to 5.3-percent in March from 5.6-percent in February.

This is welcome news, as consumers continue to feel the pinch from high fuel and food prices.

The main contributors were housing and utilities, goods and services, food and non-alcoholic beverages and transport.

Food inflation dropped from 6 percent in February, to 4.9 percent in March.

Though a possible interest rate decrease has been delayed by the Reserve Bank to the latter half of the year, this latest inflation print is encouraging.

Meanwhile, education inflation - which is reassessed every March - is sitting at 6.3 percent.

This is up from 5.7 percent.
