Petrol prices hiked by more than expected

JOHANNESBURG - Fuel prices have been hiked by more than expected.

This is because of the slate levy of about 22 cents that's been added.

The slate levy is used to finance the cumulative under-recovery of the industry when it exceeds an under-recovery of R250-million.

With this information in mind, the petrol price is set to increase by up to 67 cents per litre.

Inland diesel prices will increase by over 3 cents, but diesel at the coast will cost nearly 4 cents less.

However, the low sulphur diesel - used by most normal vehicles - will be cheaper by between 1 and 9 cents per litre.

Retail prices for paraffin and gas will decrease by 58 cents per litre, and 19 cents per kilogram respectively.

The prices will come into effect on Wednesday 3 April.
