JOHANNESBURG - Counterfeit consumables, cell accessories and illicit goods worth approximately R500 000 were confiscated during a police crackdown in Johannesburg.
Police in Gauteng conducted a series of operations targeting counterfeit, contraband and illicit goods in the Cleveland and Langlaagte areas of the Johannesburg District and Germiston in the Ekurhuleni District this week.
According to Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, in one of the operations, non-compliance notices were issued.

This, she said, was because the sale and distribution of counterfeit products may pose serious health risks to customers.
Nevhuhulwi said police continue to urge consumers to remain vigilant and report any suspected counterfeit, contraband or illicit goods to the nearest police station.
