Cosatu Congress | Mapaila receives warm welcome, Mantashe booed again

ANC Chairperson Gwede Mantashe was refused the chance to speak at Cosatu's 14th elective conference for the second time on Tuesday.

JOHANNESBURG - Political analyst Paul Mashele says ANC Chairperson Gwede Mantashe was booed by rebelling Cosatu members and not the leadership of the union federation.

Mantashe was refused the chance to speak at Cosatu's 14th elective conference for the second time on Tuesday.

Mashele said, “there are two categories of workers and it is important to make this distinction; the first category is the leadership of workers in otherwise the leadership of Cosatu. That category of workers they are not moving away from the ANC they are actually getting closer to the ANC if you look at trends you can see that the line of progression is very clear."

"They move from the leadership of Cosatu and they end up in cabinet and there is a cosy, cosy relationship between the leadership of Cosatu and the leadership of the ANC that is the first category but the second category is the general membership of workers they are moving away from the ANC so what you saw yesterday, the booing of Gwede Mantashe was an indication of the revolt on the part of the general masses of workers not on the part of the leadership of Cosatu."

"The leadership of Cosatu they invited Gwede Mantashe they had a deal that he was going to speak but the masses of workers rejected Gwede Mantashe."
