Putin warrant of arrest is unlawful: international relations expert

JOHANNESBURG - International Relations expert Charles Sinkala says issuing a warrant of arrest against a sitting president is unlawful and breaks diplomatic ties.

Sinkala says the country risks declaring war with Russia if its president Vladimir Putin is arrested when attending the Brics Summit next month.

He said, "The International Criminal Court’s process in terms of arresting a sitting president, yes crimes of aggression have been committed in Ukraine which fall under the jurisdiction of ICC, but I feel personally from legal perspective that procedurally and unlawfully issuing a warrant of arrest to a sitting president  breaks the tie."

"South Africa risks declaring a war with Russia, if they can arrest him at BRICS summit…especially the relationship that South Africa has in the Brics realm.
