WATCH | Discussion on interest rates after they were left unchanged

JOHANNESBURG - The South African Reserve Bank has decided to put a halt on interest rate hikes this week.

The decision followed better-than-expected inflation numbers this week.

It eased to 5.4%, falling inside the target range of 3 to 6% for the first time in 14 months.

But governor Lesetja Kganygo has warned that there are still risks.

Kganygo said they continue to assess data and risk and will recalibrate policy based on those risks.

Meanwhile, economist Dr. Roelof Botha says he is not convinced that increasing interest rates is the right thing to do.
