Another festive season without pay for Northwest Transport Investment employees

JOHANNESBURG - Employees of Northwest Transport Investment face yet another festive season without pay, as a subsidy dispute between two provincial governments drags on.

The South African Workers Union Ya Bashumi protested outside the Gauteng Roads and Transport Department today, demanding the release of unpaid subsidies.

Workers say they have gone months without salaries, leaving many families struggling to afford basic necessities.

The company has been under business rescue since 2022 and relies on operating subsidies from the Gauteng government.

But payments have been withheld over disputed invoices.

The Gauteng Transport Department says it's open to discussion, but responsibility ultimately lies with North West authorities.
