Cosatu calls for total shutdown at next budget speech

CAPE TOWN - Trade unions and civil society organisations are demanding an end to budget cuts.

They have rejected Operation Vulindlela.

The joint initiative was launched six years ago by the Presidency and National Treasury.

It was meant to remove barriers to growth, unlock investment, and modernise critical sectors of the economy,

But the Federation of Trade Unions said it has caused more harm than good to workers who were hoping for a pro-poor budget.

The march concluded with the memorandum of demands handed to a National Treasury representative.
