Cry of the Xcluded demands pro-poor spending

PRETORIA - Workers and frustrated civil society groups have taken to the streets, pushing back against government's austerity measures.

They said budget cuts are not just numbers on a spreadsheet but a direct war on the working class, with jobs, wages, and public services now on the line.

The Cry of the Xcluded coalition submitted a memorandum of demands to the National Treasury office in Pretoria.

The march coincided with the finance minister's Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement.

The Cry of the Xcluded said its fight is far from over after the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement failed to address their concerns.

They warn that if austerity continues, it is the working class that will continue to pay the highest price.
