Petrol price barely budges as diesel gets November cut

JOHANNESBURG - The price of petrol is coming down by one cent.

Diesel will show a more significant drop of between R1.10 and R1.20 from midnight.

The oil price has been soaring and South Africans would have been in for higher prices after both petrol and diesel hit records in October.

But Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced in the medium-term budget that the general fuel levy will be cut in November by R1.50 per litre for petrol and R3 for diesel.

The fuel levy relief would have been more significant but an additional slate levy has been added.

The Slate levy is used periodically to refund fuel importers for the difference between what they actually pay for fuel and the regulated price they can sell it at.
