JOHANNESBURG - South African motorists are hurtling towards a fuel price shock.
The expected hike in petrol prices, taking effect in early October, has now reached more than R3 per litre.
That will take prices at the pumps to a new record high.
According to data released by the Central Energy Fund yesterday, 95 unleaded petrol may rise by around R3 and the most refined Diesel by R3.07.
That will take both fuels to record highs.
Petrol prices reached a record high of R28.06 in June.
With the price change on the cards, it will soar close to R30 in Gauteng, where costs are slightly higher due to transportation.
Diesel prices reached a record high of R31.38 in May.
They could now push above R32 per litre in October.
