PRETORIA - 'Pay up, or Treasury will withhold your funding,' that’s the warning from the National Treasury to provincial governments and national departments owing municipalities billions.
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana said some have escaped consequences despite owing struggling municipalities huge sums.
Just as the Treasury withheld funding from 69 non-compliant municipalities, Godongwana said provincial and national departments were next.

Godongwana was speaking in Pretoria after Treasury withheld funds from defaulting municipalities.
Now, some non-compliant municipalities whose equitable share grants were withheld by National Treasury are making progress.
As some municipalities get their finances in order, National Treasury is shifting its focus to the provincial governments and national departments that owe billions to struggling municipalities.
